This break-out session focuses upon the notion of linguistic and cultural imperialism as it relevant to English Language Teaching (ELT) in different contexts. The session is useful to those involved in the teaching of any foreign, second or additional language. After this session, participants will have acquired the theoretical tools to analyse issues related to the topic of linguistic and cultural imperialism as it is pertinent in their teaching environments. They will have gained awareness of its implications in language teaching and learning, particularly ELT. Finally, they will have acquired a set of practical tools to identify relevant issues in their classrooms/contexts as well as to take appropriate action.
