In this article I describe a study carried out in 2009-2010 in which I set out to investigate cultural understanding in English as a Foreign Language (hereafter EFL) reading among college students, mostly female, prospective teachers and translators of English in their early twenties at Universidad Nacional de La Plata in Argentina.
