Versión castellano: El propósito de este artículo es establecer un recorrido posible en la historia de la traducción literaria en la Argentina partiendo de una periodización basada en la alternancia de funciones de la traducción y el relevo de tendencias normativas. Atendiendo a las dimensiones institucionales, a los criterios de selección y a la identidad social de los agentes, hemos establecido las siguientes configuraciones identificables en la historia de la traducción en Argentina: 1. las primeras traducciones publicadas en formato libro en la segunda mitad del siglo XIX, su contrapunto con las publicadas en folletines de diario y en revistas, y su inscripción en el orden conservador; 2. Las primeras colecciones sistemáticas en medio editorial, concomitantes con la consolidación de Buenos Aires como una modernidad periférica y la aparición de industrias culturales; 3. Las traducciones en la revista y editorial Sur y otras editoriales contemporáneas de las décadas del cuarenta y del cincuenta; 4. El lugar de la traducción durante el boom editorial del libro argentino en la década del sesenta y en las editoriales de la nueva izquierda; 5. Las prácticas editoriales en contextos de censura y escasez de recursos: libros baratos, manipulación y reedición de traducciones en el Centro Editor de América; 6. Las políticas de traducción durante la dictadura y el rol del exilio en la unificación del mercado de traducciones hispanoamericanas; 7. La traducción en la en el proceso de mundialización editorial a fines del siglo XX y principios del XXI.Versión en inglés:The purpose of this article is to trace the history of literary translation in Argentina, beginning with a periodization based on the shifting functions of translation and changing normative tendencies. Taking into account institutional characteristics, selection criteria, and the social identity of those involved, we have established the following identifiable components in thehistory of translation in Argentina: 1. the first translations published in book format in the second half of the nineteenth century, their counterparts in newspaper serials and magazines, and their sanctioning conservative regime; 2. the first systematic collections made by publishing houses, which accompanied the establishment of Buenos Aires as a peripheral modernity and the appearance of cultural industries;3. translations in the magazine and publishing house Sur and other contemporary publishers in the 1940s and 1950s; 4. the role of translation during the publishing boom of Argentine books in the 1970s and the New Left publishers; 5. publishing practices in the context of censorship and scarcity of resources: inexpensive books, and the handling and reprinting of translations in the Centro Editor de América Latina; 6. the politics of translation during the dictatorship and the role of exile in the unification of the Spanish American translation market; 7. translation in the process of the globalization of publishing at the end of the twentieth century and the beginning of the twenty-first century.
