Resumen:
Social behavior, whwther intented to benefit others as prosocial behavior or otherwise, is inherently complex. Over many years as prosocial reserarchers have accumulated mounting evidence of the complexity of prosocial behaviors in particular. This general term includes behaviors that many occur in a huge variety of contexts, mativated by anything from publicity to empathy, and the benefits of wich may vary from nothing to money and accolades and can incur a cost to the self ranging from time or effort to ones owns life. This chapter focuses on the importance of acknowledging the multiple layers enfolding prosocial behavior by highlighting over a decade of findings with one particular multidimensional measure. After reviewing the initial development, structure, reliability and validity of the Prosocial Tendencies Measure, this chapter will highlight research using the PTM across other ethnicities and cultures and will ultimately present new evidence of the psychometric properties of this measure across European American and Argentinian adolescents.
