Argentina is a country with a vast area and range of climates, coupledwith a wealth of natural resources, including products created byagricultural activity. It is a major food producer and worldwide exporter.This chapter describes the main features that make Argentina a key foodproducer. It reviews its current demographic status and future trendsand describes the state of its population?s food and nutrition security. Italso details the institutional environment in which research is conductedin this field, outlining its strengths and weaknesses.It evaluates the current degree of degradation of the water and soil,energy matrix and forests, as well as the potential impacts of climatechange. Technology and innovation related to the agricultural sector andfood production are also analyzed, with an emphasis on the country?sbiotechnology status. The possibility of increasing the efficiency of thefood system, as well as aspects related to human health, particularlyregarding the nutrition of the country?s population are also explored.Although public policy issues run throughout the chapter, a specialsection is devoted to highlighting the most relevant and urgent policiesrequired to enable the agricultural sector to play a key role in a processof overall, sustainable and inclusive economic development
