Resumen:
https://doi.org/10.1007/ 978-3-030-61721-9The chapter (number 33) proposes an summary of the developmental trajectory of executive functions from birth to adulthood. It characterizes firstly the concept of executive functions (EF), and its role in cognitive and socio-emotional advance. It points out that longitudinal design studies have shown the relevance of adequate EF development during childhood. It considers, according to the mentioned studies, that EF are reliable indexes as predictors of improved health, higher academic achievements, and better employment status. Conversely, these EF may be considered as acceptable indexes of a lower incidence of disruptive social conduct, addictions, behavioral problems, and psychopathology in adulthood. The value of a measure of these functions seems a relevant predictive value, and prevention should be influenced by them.
