Resumen:
The presence of numerous and diverse pollutants has been reported in the Suquía River Basin over the past twenty years. The lack of appropriate regulations, controls, preventive and corrective actions have caused a continuous and increasing exposure of the inhabiting biota to a complex mixture of xenobiotic and natural toxins. In this chapter, the uptake, tissue/ organ distribution and bioaccumulation of some of these pollutants are discussed. Toxic compounds studied include cyanotoxins, persistent organic pollutants (POPs), agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals as well as metals and metalloids, which negative effects (anatomical, physiological and behavioural) in fish are particularly considered.
