This work describes and analysesthe characteristics of the arguingand the imagesshowed by (N=137) textbooks in Mathematics in the argentine secondary school (12-17 years old). The textbooks have been published in the period 1940thru 2007. The analysis is done or performed three meta-categoriesin an inductive way based on textbooksinformation. Thesemeta-categoriesare:characteristics of the arguing,relationship between images and arguing as well ascharacteristics of the textbooks(the date of publishing, the epistemological conceptionsabout mathematics and the educationallevel which the textbook is oriented). A factorial analysis of multiple correspondences was performedto find the main similarities and differences between the textbooks and to make acluster analysisand one possible classification.
