This research describes the documentary work carried out by 62 mathematics teachers in service, during an online university course, while using a REI to organize teaching, that involves high school math. The Documentary Approach of the didactic (ADD) and the instrumental approach of the didactic are used to describe the schemes of use of the teachers in two types of situations: study and analyze the REI and then organize a hypothetical teaching based on it. All the individual written responses of the teachers for both tasks are analyzed and the documents generated in each instance are reconstructed by means of documentary tables. The research shows the diversity and richness of the teachers´ documentary work, and the modifications made to the resource, that occur mainly in the situation of organizing teaching and are characterized by reducing the questioning that is inherent in REIs.
