Resumen:
The teacher education device ?VERSE? was conducted in 2009 to develop skills that would enable participants to promote children's cognitive and language development, in particular, by improving teachers´ performance at scaffolding comprehension processes in Kindergarten. This paper aims to show how the development of analytical and metacognitive skills, fostered by the training device holds a close relationship with teachers´scaffolding of children's comprehension processes during storytelling activities. Qualitative analysis of the performance of participants in storytelling activities before and after participation in the device allowed to show how teachers´ scaffolding was modified, resulting in the shared execution of more complex cognitive processes with the children. The analysis of the interviews, meanwhile, shows that not only have representations of the reading situation and teachers´ role in it transformed, but also teachers´analytical and metacognitive skills themselves have developed. Understanding children´s cognitive processes through having access to their own, while reading is the key to teachers´ new way of intervening in the reading situations to promote comprehension.
