Resumen:
Microalgae cultures: S. platensis LMPA55 cultures were maintained subculturing every 15 days in Zarrouk medium pH 9.Utilization of brewery wastes: All the experiments were carried out in 100 mL shake-flasks at 30± 2 °C on an orbital shaker at 100 rpm with a 12h photoperiod using cool white fluorescent tubes at a light intensity of approximately 3000 lux. According to obtained results, the most suitable and economic diluent solution for microalgae growth was Zarrouk at 50% (mix of sterilized water and Zarrouk medium). Although lipid content and total carbohydrates resulted 67% and 64% higher than the control, respectively, microalgae growth and pigments production were limited at a COD value of 4000 mg O2/L. Therefore, COD values of 400 and 1300 mg O2/L resulted the most appropriated for S. platensis growth without modify biochemical composition.
