Resumen:
This paper aims to characterize the academic profession in Argentina and its recent changes, considering possible implications of university policies applied during the 90s in the country. In order to identify trends of change, we take two groups of academics, the "young" and "mature", meaning the first group those who got their first academic appointment since 2000 and the latter those who got them before 19841. The hypothesis that guides the paper argues that younger generations have distinct characteristics, some of which would demonstrate greater adaptation to recent policies, unlike older generations, who show greater autonomy from the new regulations. Based on responses to the survey conducted by the international study of the Changing Academic Profession (CAP), the two groups of academics responses are analyzed across different variables that can be grouped into 1) personal / social characteristics, 2) career trajectories 3) professional identity and commitment, and 4) satisfaction with the academic task. across different variables that can be grouped into 1) personal / social characteristics, 2) career trajectories 3) professional identity and commitment, and 4) satisfaction with the academic task. across different variables that can be grouped into 1) personal / social characteristics, 2) career trajectories 3) professional identity and commitment, and 4) satisfaction with the academic task. across different variables that can be grouped into 1) personal / social characteristics, 2) career trajectories 3) professional identity and commitment, and 4) satisfaction with the academic task.
