U-Pb age of the Divisadero Largo Formation and paleoenvironmental implications. The Divisadero Largo Formation corresponds to a Cenozoic succession of sandstones and shales. Sedimentological and paleontological studies present apparently contradictory evidences of both humid and arid conditions during deposition of this unit. Based on a new U-Pb age and sedimentological observations, we propose that the Divisadero Largo Formation records important climatic fluctuations associated to the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum, which also implies consequences in the biostratigraphic scheme of the South American Paleogene.
