Resumen:
THE first named extinct turtle species from South Americawas Testudinites sellovii Weiss, 1830, a tortoise from thePleistocene of Uruguay. The material consists of isolatedplates that come mainly from the plastron (Fig. 1), and originatesfrom the Pleistocene deposits of Paso del Catalán(formerly known as Passo del Catalán), near river Queguayin the area of Paysandú (NW Uruguay). In this note, wepresent our observations on the syntypes of Museum fürNaturkunde, Leibniz-Institut für Evolutions und Biodiversitätsforschung,Berlin, Germany (MfN MB.R.), based on ourdirect observations on the material.
