Resumen:
Population ageing in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) countries is occurring at an unprecedented pace (Palloni et al. 2002; Kinsella y VelKoff 2001; Chackiel, 1999). What has taken more than 50 years in Europe and North America may take only 15 years or less in LAC. Yet, this speed is not the unique difference: ageing transition in LAC is fostered by different driving forces and in another context, compared to Western Countries. Uruguay, Cuba and Argentina are the most aged populations in the LAC, with proportions of 60 years and older that reach to 15% - 18% of the total population (UN, 2013). One of the main concerns of the aged populations is the increasing amount of individuals with Long-Term Care needs. In this presentation, I will show the main findings of my research of LAC?s Ageing and LTC. I will also discuss the future research agenda in order to set the basis for designing a National System of LTC in Argentina.
