Previous research studies at the Programa Educación, Economía y Trabajo (CONICET-PEET-IICE/UBA) have spotted and described groups of both beneficiaries and excluded people from formal education and other instances of knowledge appropriation, as the disadvantages of low-educational level population are reproduced both at the formal and the informal levels. The presentation focuses on the compared analysis of changes in the characteristics of formal, non-formal and informal education of youth and adults in Argentina between 1998 and 2011, with special emphasis on the attained educational level, the possibility as well as the obstacles and restraints in the access to non-formal education and the ascertainment of the cumulative advance principle. The Argentine-Canadian survey Lifelong Work and Education (ArCaWall) is an authorized customization of the Wall survey Work and lifelong learning developed and carried out by the University of Torontos CSEW-OISE. The paper focuses on the methodological quantitative challenges posed by the customization of the ArCaWall questionnaire and its implementation in Argentina, and introduces its preliminary results on adult populations in the metropolitan area of Buenos Aires.
