A 2.0-kb fragment from the Lactobacillus gasseri temperate bacteriophage φadh contained the essential genetic determinants for site-specific integration. The nucleotide sequence of this fragment was determined. An open reading frame intG, which adjoined the phage attachment site attP, encoded a deduced protein related to the integrase family. The organization of this region was comparable to other phage site-specific recombination systems.
