Resumen:
The aim of this chapter is to analyze the relationship between narratives, images, and historical maps used to teach and understand history, based on previous research conducted in Argentina. We think that an essentialist and timeless concept of the nation is transmitted not only through historical narratives but also through images and maps that function as symbolic support of narratives and make them legitimate. In other words, they help legitimize a narrative used to make one perspective on national history prevail. We also consider that, to promote an understanding of the dynamic and historical features of the nation-building process among students, it?s not enough only to suggest alternative narratives. The relationship between narratives, maps, and images also needs to be considered to build historical knowledge.
