Algal polar lipids quantification by HPLC

High performance liquid chromatography with evaporative light scattering detection was used to characterize and quantify species in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, Scenedesmus spp., and Schizochytrium limacinum microalgae. Baseline separation of the polar lipid species (glycosyl sterols, monogalactosyl glycerides, digalactosyl glycerides, and individual phospholipids) was achieved and the peaks were confirmed by mass spectroscopy.
