Resumen:
The antimicrobial activity of the essential oil of cinnamon (Cinnamomun Zeylanicum)
against of Paenibacillus larvae subsp. larvae was studied. The oil was obtained by steam
distillation. The components were analyzed by fine layer chromatography revealing rf
0.67 for the cinamic aldehyde, 0.35 for the eugenol and a rf area among 0.05 and 0.21
corresponding to the region of terpenic alcohols. The antimicrobial activity of the oil
was determined by the tube dilution method in Mueller-Hinton broth for the Minimal
inhibitory concentration (MIC) and agar MYPGP (broth Mueller-Hinton, yeast extract,
glucose and piruvato of sodium) for the minimal bactericide concentration (MBC). On
the other hand the section of inhibition taken place by the components of the essential
oil using the bioautography method on a chromatogram included in agar MYPGP with
trifenil tetrazolium chloride in water were determined. The chromatography badges
developed covered with the means of inoculated cultivation were incubated at 36 (1ºC
during 24-48 hours). The essential oil of cinnamon registered values between 50-100
mg/L and 100-125 mg/L of CIM and CBM respectively. In the bioautografhy method
yellow areas of inhibition corresponding to the cromatography fraction with
antimicrobial activity on the sections corresponding to the aldehyde cinámico and to the
eugenol were observed. The essential oil of Cinamum zeylanicum (cinnamon) and
especially two of their components presented inhibitory capacity in front of the strains
of P. larvae subsp. larvae.
