Resumen:
?Stratigraphy and palaeoenvironment of pliocene depositS of Eastern Cordillera, argentina?. This study provides the results of the first integrated study of Pliocene basins in the Northwest Argentina. Within the study area, four main depocentres have been identified where continental sediments accumulated in the Pliocene period. The principal depocentre extends along the Sierra de Zapla, Valle de Lerma and the Subandean Belt. This basin received coarse conglomerates and sandstones with varying thickness called Piquete Formation. The depocentre in the basinal area of the Quebrada de Humahuca was separated of Casa Grande-Tres Cruces basin before Pliocene time, as the Sierra Alta was uplift in Eocene. In the Casa Grande-Tres Cruces basin the deposits are represented by Mal Paso Formation and in the Quebrada de Humahuca by Maimará and Uquía formations. In the Calchaquí Valley sedimentary infilling was represented by a gradual alluvial fan progradation corresponding to the San Felipe Formation.
