Resumen:
Tierra del Fuego is an archipelago located in the southernmost part of South America, shared by Chile and Argentina. Lacking direct colonial period effects, the demographic reshape in Tierra del Fuego has taken place belatedly after its incorporation into Chile and Argentina by the end of the 19th century1. Following this event, Tierra del Fuego received an influx of newcomers, initially from Europe, and later from other Latin American countries2-4. Thus, shifting the demography of this archipelago formerly inhabited by Native Americans. The male-specific region of the Y chromosome (MSY) is uniparentally inherited and transmitted intact, unless a mutation occurs. Therefore, the study of polymorphisms in the MSY, allows inferring the paternal bio-geographic ancestry of an individual and to disclose the paternal history of populations5. The main aim of this study was to increase the genetic coverage of the Fueguian paternal lineages and to grasp how historical events may have contributed to the present genetic diversity in Tierra del Fuego.
