Abstract: Background: Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) are chronic and relapsing intestinal inflammatory disorders. Galectin-1 (Gal-1) is a lectin with anti-inflammatory properties and therapeutic potential in immune-mediated disorders. In this study we investigated the role of Gal-1 in the colonic mucosa of patients with IBD.Methods: Intestinal specimens from control (HC) (n=46) and IBD patients (n=82) were studied by RT-qPCR, immunoblotting, immunohistochemistry and ELISA for Gal-1 production and flow cytometry for detection of Gal-1-specific ligands in lamina propria T cells (LPTC).
