Sugarcane Vitroplantas produced at EEAOC under ISO 9001 Standard certification

Since 2001, the Estación Experimental Agroindustrial Obispo Colombres (EEAOC) has led the Vitroplantas Project in order to obtain seed cane of high phytosanitary quality and genetic purity for productivity improvement. The first stage of the process involves the in vitro culture of apical meristems from donor plants previously hydro-heat-treated and the micropropagation of plants and takes place at the biotechnology laboratory. In 2016, to add value to the product and increase customer satisfaction, a Quality Management System (QMS) was implemented under the international standard ISO 9001:2008. Several modifications were made to the main process and the support ones to achieve this goal. In September 2016, the Argentine Institute for Standardization and Certification (IRAM) verified the Quality Management System implemented and its level of development and in December 2016, certification was achieved. In 2017, as a new version of ISO 9001:2015 was released, political, economic, social and technological factors that could be a source of opportunities, threats, strengths and weaknesses, as well as the relevant requirements of the interested parties were considered. At the end of 2017, the QMS was certified under ISO 9001:2015 standards. This achievement reassures customers of the ability to offer products that meet their requirements under an international certification.
