Resumen:
The novel biostimulant for sustainable crop disease management, PSP1, based on an extract containing the plant defense-elicitor protease AsES secreted by the fungus Acremonium strictum provides broad-range protection against diseases in various crop species such as strawberry, soybean, wheat and sugarcane. In soybean PSP1 treatment reduced symptomatology of target spot, caused by the fungus Corynespora cassiicola, by 70%. This protection effect was similar to the commercial inducer BION 500 WG based on BTH, and both products were shown to induce defense-gene expression. Soybean field trials conducted with different elite genotypes at multiple locations in Argentina during the last 5 years, showed that PSP1 is able to reduce late season disease development similar to commercial fungicides and that this protection was accompanied by increased yields of approximately 10%.In summary, an effective control against both bacterial and fungal pathogens in both monocot and dicot crop species, which together with its low production cost, effectiveness at low concentrations, long shelf-life, tolerance to high temperatures, harmlessness to non-target organisms and effective application in multiple field trials, make PSP1 a very promising candidate for effective and sustainable disease management in many crop species.
