Resumen:
Abstract. This work presents the evaluation of a possible transduction principle to beimplemented in a biosensor for the early detection of citrus diseases. The proposed principle isthe inhibition of the Horseradish peroxidase enzyme by the polyphenols present in the stems orleaves of citrus. It has been reported that a certain kind of diseases produce a significantincrement of flavonoids, particularly quercetin, hesperidin and naringenin. The enzyme activitywas biochemically evaluated by the OD method, which is sensitive and reliable. The evaluationof the enzyme inhibition of each of the previously mentioned flavonoids, showed an inhibitionbetween 80% and 90% depending on the flavonoid and its concentration.
