Resumen:
Cadmium (Cd) is a toxicmetal and also is an important environmental contaminant. Previously weobserved by optical microscopy that Cd induces lung infiltration, so that westudied Cd intoxication and the parallels effects on hematological parametersand bronchoalveolar lavages (BAL) under different diets. 4 lots of femaleWistar rats were used: 2 lots received casein (Cas) and 2 lots received soybean(Soy) as protein sources. Within each group: 1 lot received regular water(control-Co) and the other 15ppm of Cd in drinking water for 60 days. Bloodsamples were collected and they were analyzed using a hemocytometer ADVIA 360(SIEMENS) and autoanalyzer A15 (BIOSYSTEMS). BAL was performed, cells werecounted using a Neubauer?s chamber and LDH activity was measured. Total RNA was isolated from lungs using Trizol andcDNA was obtained: VCAM-1 and Nrf2 were determined by PCR, using S28 ascontrol. ANOVAtest was used for statistical analysis.White blood cells decreased in both intoxicated groups (p
