Resumen:
There are many studies of androgens effect on vascular toneand endothelial function, ho􀁙ever fe􀁙 of them focuses on reactiveoxygen species 􀀊􀀴􀀱S􀀋 generation and regulation by testosterone. The antioxidant defense system consist of􀀜 enzymatic and non􀀏enzymatic compounds. Among the latter 􀁙e found copper, zinc orselenium. 􀀱ne of the most important functions of zinc is its participationin the antioxidant defense system. The aim of this 􀁙or􀁍􀁙as to study the effect of castration on antioxidant parameters inaorta male rats. 􀀯oreover, 􀁙e analyzed the antioxidant defensesystem 􀁙hen 􀀼n 􀁙as administered as a non􀀏enzymatic antioxidant.􀀹e tested the effect of androgen deprivation on the prooxidant􀀏antioxidant balance 􀀕􀀒 days after castration. 􀀹istar male rats􀀊􀀔􀀒􀀒􀁶􀀔􀀒g􀀋 􀁙ere separated in five groups􀀜 controls 􀀊Co􀀋, controlssupplemented 􀁙ith zinc 􀀊Co􀀍􀀼n􀀋, castrated 􀀊Ca􀀋, castrated supplemented􀁙ith testosterone 􀀊Ca􀀍T􀀋 and castrated supplemented􀁙ith testosterone and zinc 􀀊Ca􀀍T􀀍􀀼n􀀋 for five days. After 􀀕􀀒 daysrats 􀁙ere 􀁍illed and aorta 􀁙as obtained. 􀀴􀀰A 􀁙as extracted byusing T􀀴􀀫zol. 􀀰uclear factor􀀏erythroid 􀀔 related factor 􀀔 􀀊nrf􀀏􀀔􀀋,􀀩lutathion peroxidase 􀀊􀀩􀀲x􀀋, and catalase CAT expression 􀁙eredetermined by 􀀴T􀀏􀀲C􀀴. S􀀔􀀚 􀁙as the control. 􀀤lood pressure 􀁙asmeasured before castration and 􀀕􀀒 days post castration. 􀀤loodcells count 􀁙as realized. A􀀰􀀱􀀸A 􀁙as used for statistical analysis.􀀰rf 􀀔 expression sho􀁙ed a significant increase in Ca 􀀊p􀀞􀀒.􀀒􀀗􀀋 bu tCa􀀍T group did not reversed the effect. CAT expression did notchange in Ca but Ca􀀍T􀀍􀀼n 􀁙as significantly higher than Co andCa rats 􀀊p􀀞􀀒.􀀒􀀗􀀋. 􀀩px expression in Ca, Ca􀀍T and Co􀀍􀀼n andCa􀀍T􀀍􀀼n 􀁙ere higher than Co group 􀀊p􀀞􀀒.􀀒􀀗􀀋. 􀀤lood pressuredid not change after castration and blood cells count didn􀁹t sho􀁙any difference bet􀁙een treatments. 􀀹e conclude that androgendeprivation alters the prooxidant􀀏antioxidant balance in aorta. 􀀰rf􀀔is 􀀼n sensitive, 􀁙hile 􀀩􀀲x is influenced by testosterone and 􀀼n.
