Also, androgens play a physiological role in pulmonary function. We tested the effect of castration on the prooxidant-antioxidant balance at two different times: 30 and 60 days after castration. Wistar male rats (200±20g) were separated in three groups: controls (Co), castrated (Ca), and castrated supplemented with testosterone (Ca+T) for five days. After 30 (30d) or 60 days (60d) rats were killed. TBAR?S and CAT activity were determined. Total RNA was isolated and Androgen Receptor (AR), Superoxide Dismutase (SOD), Nuclear factor-erythroid 2 related factor 2 (nrf-2), Glutathion peroxidase (GPx) and NADPH Oxidase (NOX-2) were determined by PCR.
