Resumen:
Using culture-independentmolecularapproaches,westudiedthebacterialpopulationchangesintherumen ofgoatsabruptlyconvertedfromalfalfahaytofreshalfalfadiet.Administrationoffreshforagewith significantly increasedsolublenitrogenandsolubleproteinnitrogenresultedinfrothybloat.Changes ofthebacterialcompositionofrumenweremonitoredusingDGGEanalysisof16SrDNAgeneamplicons andquantitativePCRmethod.Asthedietchanged,thebacterialpopulationofBacteroidetesand γ-Proteobacteriadecreased,evenifanimalshavenotshownsignsoffrothybloat.Themostseverelybloated animalsshowedanincreaseofBacteroidetesphylum. Lactobacillus/Streptococcus group belongingto Firmicutesphylumdecreasedinresponsetotransferringtheanimalsfromhaytoafreshforage-baseddiet, anddidnotachievethevaluesobservedatthebeginningoftheexperiment.Insummary,changesinthe dietandsubsequentfrothybloatoccurrenceproducelong-lastingchangesinthestructureofthemicrobial communityandmaybeassociatedwithaspecific bacterialpopulationbelongingtotheBac-teroidetesphylum.
