Resumen:
Text comprehension requires inferences to build a mental model of text meaning. We have devised a test to evaluate children´s inferential ability in reading, based on an experimental task of Oakhill (1982). Original text were translated and modified by experts, following linguistic and general knowledge criteria, such as familiarity whit the subject, word frequency, anaphoric distance and type of inferences required. A pilot sample (n=34) comprising 8-9 years old children from Mar del Plata completed the task.  Results suggested tha children understand the task and texts. Differential item difficulty was observed, in line with theoretical considerations about inferences and original English data
