The knowledge of host and epichloid endophytes diversity in South America is restricted to Argentina, where more than 36 grass species harbor Neotyphodium (Iannone et al., 2012). Although many of these host species also inhabit other countries from South America, in our hands no surveys for endophyte detection have been performed out from Argentina with the exception of Chile (Moran-Jones et al., 1990) were Neotyhodium was not reported in native grasses yet. In this work we studied the presence of endophytes in more than 20 C3-grass species in 14 localities of Uruguay, and we also studied herbarium plant material from different countries from South-America.
