Resumen:
KEY POINTS? Plant extracts and phytochemicals evidenced the capacity to prevent some diseasesassociatedwith oxidative stress and advanced glycation end product (AGE) formation.? Polyphenols are the main group of compounds with anti-AGE activities and the publishedscientic evidence is presented.? The ability of polyphenols to prevent AGE formation depends on their structure (phenolicacids, avonoids, and stilbenes).? Terpenoids (terpenes and carotenoids) have gained relevance as potential anti-AGE agentsin recent times.? This review focuses on the potential of plant-derived products to develop medicines for treatingdiseases at a lower cost and toxicity than synthetic antiglycant pharmaceutical agents.
