Resumen:
p { margin-bottom: 0.21cm; }A coating comprising quaternaryammonium salts (QAS) and aliphatic moieties was performed inPoly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) surface in order to confer antibacterialactivity. This was achieved by grafting mercaptopropyltrimetoxysilaneonto PVC, followed by aminopropyltriethoxysilane. Betaine andDodecenyl Succinic Anhydride (DDSA) were bonded to free amine groups. The modified PVC samples were characterized by FT-IR, showing thatthe PVC surface was successfully coated. Energy Dispersive X-rayspectroscopy showed the spatial distributions of the elements Si andS, indicating that the coatings were homogeneous. Betaine and DDSAcoated PVC showed a better antibacterial performance than thecontrols. This antibacterial effect was extremely reinforced inBetaine-DDSA modified PVC showing greater antibacterial activity thanboth treatments separately applied. Antibacterial activity againstAcinetobacter baumanii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa,Staphylococcus aureus, and Bacillus subtilis wasstudied in the treated samples showing that the coating was effectiveagainst Gram positive and Gram negative species.
