Resumen:
The aim of this work was physicochemical characterization and drug release evaluation of novel hydrogels based on polyelectrolyte-ciprofloxacin ionic complexes using a new dendritic polymer (DP). The DP is a vinyl monomer of a behera?s amine derivative; which have carboxylic pending groups with the capacities of interact ionically with the piperazil cationic amine of ciprofloxacin. The ionic complexes were evaluated by FT-IR, PDRX, thermal analysis and optical microscopy. Stable and viscous hydrogels were obtained, which showed a controlled release of ciprofloxacin toward different media. In addition, high biocompatibility and low cytotoxicity of DP and its complexes was demonstrated by in vitro and in vivo assays. The new hydrogels have promising physicochemical and biopharmaceutical properties to be used in the design of controlled drug delivery systems with potential utilities in topical and mucosal opportunist infections treatment.
