Resumen:
Organic polymers and nanolayers inorganic nanocomposites of montmorillonite are studied to
investigate their structure and the influence of a few weight percent loading of clays in
polymer macroscopic properties, since they make of modified polymer a potential material in
commercial applications.
The aim of this work is to compare the behavior of HDPE hybrids modified with different
clays. Sodium montmorillonite clay (MNa) was used as raw material. After cationic
interchange with CH3(CH2)15N+(CH3)33(CH2)15N+(CH3)3
ion, organophilc clay was obtained (MH). Then two
monomers were added to MH: (CH3)2SiCl2 y (CH3)2Si(OCH3)2. Finally, in situ
polymerization was carried out to obtain polydiphenilsiloxane (PDPhS) into interlamellar
galleries. The following modified nanoclay were obtained: MH_PDPhS(Cl) and
MH_PDPhS(Met).
HDPE/clay mixing was performed using melt compounding processing in a Haake torque
rheometer Rheocord 9000 equipped with a mix chamber and roller rotors at 100 rpm and
190°C
X-ray results show interlamellar changes when PDPhS is incorporated. FTIR spectra show
that the same PDPhS product is obtained in situ polymerization from the two modified clays.
SEM photographs exhibits some changes between MH_ PDPhS(Cl) y MH_PDPhS(Met). This
could be due to different media of reaction during in situ polymerization. Mechanical
properties were studied to analyze the HDPE/nanoclay interaction.3)2SiCl2 y (CH3)2Si(OCH3)2. Finally, in situ
