Resumen:
Sodium montmorillonite (MMT) was modified with three cyclic species, and high density Polyethylene (HDPE) was used as polymeric matrix. The cyclic species used for modifying the MMT were: ε-caprolactam (ε-CLa), ε- caprolactone (ε-CLo) and octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (OMCTS). They were introduced into silicate interlamellar spaces using different ways. Melt processing was used to prepare the HDPE /clay composites. Clays were characterized by X- ray diffraction (XRD), infrared spectra (FTIR) and thermal gravimetric analysis (TG-DTG). The composites were studied by XRD and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), TG-DTG, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and pervaporation techniques. The results show the feasibility of obtaining MMT modified with different organic molecules, the addition of modified clays in the polymeric matrix affected the thermal and transport properties of the composites.
