Resumen:
Electrohydrodynamic (EHD) processing is a powerful and versatile processing technology with huge potential in many attractive and cutting-edge research fields. This technique allows the production of non-woven micro/nanofibrous scaffolds and micro/nanoparticles of many different materials for biomedical applications. Electrospun fibers and electrosprayed particles exhibit highly attractive functional characteristics as tissue engineering scaffolds and drug delivery carriers. Submicrometer-sized fibers and particles offer high loading capacity and encapsulation efficiency which can improve the therapeutic effect and to reduce the toxicity of conventional dosage forms. In this work, several examples of research results obtained by using EHD techniques in the field of drug delivery systems are briefly presented. Additionally, the current challenges and perspectives are outlined.
