Resumen:
Germination and in vitro regeneration of S.punicea and S. virgata calluses were studied to produce anefficient protocol for subsequent use as phytoremediatorspecies and provide information to increase contaminationtolerance. Mechanical and chemical scarification, as pregermination treatments, increased germination in bothspecies. In vitro regeneration is possible, using epicotylsections as explant, which have caulogenic capacity. However, S. virgata had a better response at the rootingstage. This provides new information to advance in genetictransformation studies to increase contamination tolerancefor these species to be used in phytoremediation orrevegetation plans
