Resumen:
Arsenic in water is a problem that affects millions of people, so that several techniques have been developed to address this problem. Environmental, friendly and low cost-effective adsorbent materials for arsenic removing from groundwater are needed. We have merged previous expertise in the use of biopolymers and nanoiron to develop a hybrid compound to mitigate arsenic in water through a combined mechanism of adsorption followed by oxidation-reduction. Proof of concept of this procedure has been achieved at laboratory scale, proving that this novel hybrid material composed of chitosan and nanoFe increase the efficiency of arsenic uptake by orders of magnitude.
