Resumen:
Cu plays a rich variety of roles in nature. Due to its generally accessible CuI/CuII redox couple, Cu is found as a component of enzymes which catalyze a broad range of chemical reactions, including H2O2 activation and the disproportionation of superoxide ion. In this work, five Cu(II) complexes with different coordination environments and ligand nature were synthesized and their performances as superoxide dismutase and peroxidase mimics were evaluated. Taken together, the results suggest that ligand arrangement around the metal and flexibility are more relevant than CuI/CuII redox potential in explaining the observed catalytic activities.
