Resumen:
It has been postulated that oxidative stress (OE) plays an important role in many pathologies including atherosclerosis, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, like multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). SLE is aprogressive, chronic autoimmune disease, with a broad spectrum of symptoms. Although the pathogenesis of SLE is multifactorial, its inflammatory nature implicates an oxidativebackground that contributes to dysfunction of immune cells, production of auto-antigens and reactivity of auto-antibodies. In many cases, OE induces anincrease inthe levels of reactive species, mainly malondialdehyde (MDA), the final product of lipid peroxidation, or a decrease in the levels of antioxidant molecules. The aim of our work was to evaluate the OE in SLE patiens with systemic activity (A). We studied 27 patients whose activity was determined by thepresence of anti-native DNA and/or anti-C1q antibodies (normal value: title
