Resumen:
Acetaminophenoxidation from aqueous solution by the UV/H2O2 process isevaluated and studied. A well-stirred annular batch photoreactor was used to performthe experiences. Different levels of H2O2 were used atthe same pollutant concentration. It can be observed that Total Organic Carboncan be reduced 80 % in 3 hours, while acetaminophen is almost completelydegraded in 30 minutes using a hydrogen peroxide concentration of 130 ppm. Thisbehaviour is related with different intermediates that appear during thereaction that can be detected with chromatographic techniques (HPLC ? GC).According to the first results the process is effective for acetaminophendegradation at low hydrogen peroxide concentrations, reaching almost totalmineralization in 3 hours. More experiments should be conducted in order tooptimize the process and study its kinetics.
