Resumen:
The aim of this work was to study the degradation kinetics of endocrine disruptor Benzyl Butyl Phthalate by a water treatment process based on Ozone and UV radiation. The explored variables were: (i) Ozone concentration, (ii) Incident radiation rate at the reactor windows, (iii) reaction pH and (iv) presence of radical scavengers. The model comprises four parallel sub-systems: (1) direct photolysis, (2) direct ozonation, (3) complete ozonation reactions (direct + indirect oxidation) and (4) ozone + UVC degradation. Major intermediates of BBP degradation were identified, and a degradation scheme was proposed. Degradation kinetics was correctly modelled by a pseudo-first order kinetic model based on the sum of all the effects occurring during the treatment, and the corresponding kinetic constants were obtained.
