Resumen:
A
methodology for analysis and design of a photo-Fenton solar reactor for water
decontamination is presented. The proposed methodology is based on the
fundamentals of chemical reaction engineering and radiative transfer in
participating media, without using adjustable parameters in going from the
laboratory information to a pilot scale apparatus. This approach consists of
three main steps: (i) a kinetic study of the pollutant degradation in a
well-stirred tank laboratory reactor for different iron salt concentrations,
reaction temperatures and hydrogen peroxide to pollutant initial concentration
ratios, (ii) a theoretical and experimental study of a novel pilot-plant solar
reactor for the photo-Fenton treatment of waters containing toxic organic
compounds, and (iii) a study of the apparent and absolute quantum efficiencies
of the photo-Fenton mineralization of a commercial herbicide.
