Resumen:
The oxidation of low concentration, aqueous solutions of a mixture of polluntants represent by dichloroacetic acid (DCA) - a typical by product of chlorine disinfection – and formic acid was studied employing hydrogen peroxide and UV radiation. The main objective of this research is the development of an operative reaction scheme based on plausible paths to explain the experimental results and elucidate a range of suitable operating conditions for a mixture of pollutants degradation. This is the first step to the proposal of a sounded mathematical model for the degradation reaction kinetics apt for scale-up purposes. Also, the kinetic modeling of the mixture of pollutants will allow us to approach real problems of contamination, since wastewaters usually have a complex chemical composition.
