Resumen:
The use of cellulase enzyme of Trichoderma longibrachiatum supplemented with recombinant β-glucosidase is evaluated for the hydrolysis of recycled paper in order to obtain a solution of sugars and by catalytic isomerization/dehydration with ion exchange resins (RII) to transform it into 5-HMF. In addition, the behavior of RII, anionic and cationic, with different activation conditions as catalysts for these reactions is analyzed. With these enzymes, 60% paper hydrolysis has been obtained with optimal substrate and enzyme loads of 5% w/v and 3.75 FPU/ml. This results in 25-30 mg/ml of total reducing sugars after 96 h. The optimal activation of the resins was obtained with solutions of 10% NaOH and HCl. With the anionic RII a conversion of 83% and 74% of glucose was obtained starting from pure reagent or paper hydrolyzate, at 80 °C and 10 bar of N2, in 3 h and with the cationic RII a yield to HMF of 67% and 53% starting from fructose or isomerization product of the paper hydrolyzate at 105°C and 15 bar N2 in 3 h. In both cases, the selectivity and carbon balance were greater than 75%.
