Resumen:
The catalytic decomposition of methane (CDM) is an attractive alternative for the production of COx-free hydrogen for use in fuel cells. Numerous supported metal can catalyze the CDM forming carbon nanofibers under relative mild conditions. However, these catalysts rapidly deactivate. Thus, in order to stabilize the active metal, Ni, Co and Rh, supported on either La2O3 or La2O3-SiO2 were used. All the catalysts show stable conversion after being on stream for 24 h. Furthermore, the best formulation (NiLaSi) maintained the activity after 96 hours on stream. The strong metal support interaction of NiLaSi seems to contribute to the excellent stability of the most active catalyst
