Resumen:
Recently, Pt-Rh bimetallic catalysts were presented as active and selective systems for the ring-opening of cyclic hydrocarbons [1?4], whereas rhodium and platinum supported monometallic catalysts exhibit a poor selectivity to ring-opening products (ROP). This synergetic effect was demonstrated as depending on the preparation method and was attributedto the presence of bimetallic Pt-Rh alloys at the metal particle surface. The objective of the current study was to prepare bimetallic Pt-Rh catalysts supported on g-alumina using controlled reactions to favor the formation of this alloy. Then the catalysts were characterized by FTIR of adsorbed NO and CO, to quantify the amount of Pt-Rh alloy species, and evaluatedfor methylcyclopentane hydrogenolysis reaction to correlate the performances in methylcyclopentane ring-opening with the importance of this Pt-Rh alloy.
