Resumen:
The selective dehydration of xylose to furfural provides a potential route for the sustainable production of furfural from natural renewable resources. Furfural is targeted as a potential platform molecule for the biofuel, biochemical and biopolymer industries. Here, we studied the dehydration of xylose to furfural on catalyst containing only strong Brønsted acid sites (resin Amberlyst 36) or moderate Lewis acid sites (-Al2O3, zeolite Sn-BEA), and catalysts containing both Lewis and Brønsted acid sites of either strong (zeolites HMCM22, HBEA) or moderate (SiO2?Al2O3) strength.
